First Expanded Perlite Production in Morocco Furnace: Incon H-22 Product: Horticultural, Industrial, and Construction Perlite Location: Berrechid (Casablanca) MOROCCO Owner: Perlite Inc. Roche Investments, an established company in Morocco has long operated a perlite mine. Their main market for the ore is its use in the production of phosphate, one of Moroccos leading exports. In the production of phosphate, gypsum contained in the deposit must be removed. It is reacted chemically with the perlite ore producing a crystal, which is then removed by filtration. Recognizing the growing market for expanded perlite within Morocco, the potential to grow it better with a local supply, with opportunities to export to nearby markets which were also growing rapidly, and with the synergies associated with their mining endeavors, Roche Investments founded Perlite Inc. to produce expanded perlite. In deciding on equipment for the new plant, Perlite Inc. did a study of the various technologies available. They needed an expansion system which would be flexible and which would be well suited to their raw material. They needed to work with an established company, experienced in both the perlite industry and in working with companies in various parts of the world where local requirements can play an important part in the success of a new venture. They chose to work with Incon and a perlite system based on Incons new H22 furnace. "AFTER VISITING SEVERAL FACILITES AND RUNNING TESTS WITH DIFFERENT EQUIPMENT, INCON'S STOOD OUT BASED ON PERFORMANCE, ROBUST CONSTRUCTION, AND VALUE." The H-22 was introduced by Incon only a few years earlier but rapidly grew to be accepted as a reliable, efficient, and flexible furnace offering the best value available. With approximately twenty of these units operating around the world, Perlite Inc.s choice of the H-22 would assure both that their operation would be as efficient and productive and those of the other already established companies, and that they could count on the future development and support that only equipment with a wide established base can offer. Expanded perlite operations began in early 2001 with the production of aggregate and horticultural grades. Production of other grades will begin in the near future. |
